An Introduction,
Dear Stranger,
You have found me at a dissonant time. The world moves slowly through me, and I feel as though I am uncertain of a great many things.
One thing I do know, however, is that I am dreaming of building something. My hands are not steady enough to build a true home for my body, but I have enough memories coursing through my marrow to know I could build something for my soul to exist within. That’s what this is.
As you read this, I am building in my head a mansion with a great hall and a many great rooms. I am imagining the many versions of myuself that live there. I am imagining the guests (you) that I cannot wait to host, to welcome in with warmth and a hand to hold and a drink to settle you in.
Right now, it is concept. It is still a small star among a great many galaxies, but it is my great star, and I hope it will grow to be bright enough to guide people home. To guide them to me.
Perfume is an art-form that brings me back to myself. Even in my hours of doubt, I can understand more about myself and my memories through scent. I find it cures a strange loneliness that has stalked my recent years like a predator. Especially when there is such a palpable estrangement from the body I know to the body I want. I can feel like the person I am and the person I want to be with just a few sprays of a perfume. A powerful tool I feel like the world is begining to recognize.
I have always maintained the idea that this project is selfish. It is a pathway for my catharsis, and that is my driving force. Yet, if we have learned anything in these recent years, we have learned we are familiar creatures sharing the same emotions, so I hope that in these works, you too can find some catharsis of your own.
I am building this house room by room, memory by memory, desire by desire. I hope to welcome you in. I hope you’ll stay with me. I hope you’ll show me your soul and let it become part of the woodwork of this house.
